History

An Indonesian Navy officer, Admiral Yosafat Didik Heru Purnomo constituted the idea of Marine Museum Yogyakarta establishment. Loving the marine life and being restless of the young generation who no longer paid attention on marine, he gave his home to museum. Marine Museum Yogyakarta was officially inaugurated and opened on April 25th, 2009.

Profile

 This museum was established to give the broad knowledge of marine to people, particularly young generation. By getting to know maritime closely, young generation is supposed to love ocean and being able to empower the oceanic resource well. The visitors of the museum will know the bridge of the warship and watching the documentary film of Indonesian Navy. Apart from that, the museum presents the visitors the collections of marine, such as cannons, depth bomb, torpedo, diving equipments, telegraph, anchor, the world’s ocean map and the replica of ship with the its parts.

Marine Museum Yogyakarta has four main rooms, i.e. collection and souvenir rooms, the second floor collection room, the last forecastle room and the audio visual room which is used to watch film related to marine.

The collection of Marine Museum Yogyakarta includes cannons, dept bombs, torpedoes, sea mines, radars, sonar, magnetic compass, GPS, liferalt, telescope, sextant, miniatures of warship, radios, Indonesian Navy’s equipment, etc.

Tuesday – Sunday : 8.30 a.m. – 15.30 p.m.

Early permission is required for group visitor.
